Sverige håller ställningarna som toppnation i hoppning. Vid lördagens GP-hoppning i Global Champions Tour i Rom var det tre svenskar bland de sex bästa. Malin Baryard-Johnsson på H&M Indiana vann klassen.


–Jag är så stolt över henne och så glad över att få sitta på den förmodligen bästa hästen i världen, säger Malin till Global Champions TV.

Hela elva ryttare var felfria i grundomgången, däribland alla tre startande svenska ryttare, Henrik von Eckermann/King Edward, Malin Baryard-Johnsson/H&M Indiana och Evelina Tovek/Winnetou de la Hamente Z.

Malin visade redan i fredags att guldformen från Tokyo håller i sig och idag var det ingen som kom i närheten. Tillsammans med fenomenala H&M Indiana slog hon tvåan Christian Ahlmann med över en sekund. De två utgjorde det vinnande laget i eftermiddagens avgörande omgång i Global Champions League men här var det Malin som drog det längsta strået.

Henrik von Eckermann på King Edward fyllde på sin rad av nollor från Tokyo och slutade på femte plats, precis före likaledes dubbelt felfria Evelina Tovek.

The sensational combination of Malin Baryard-Johnsson and H&M Indiana took Rome by storm winning their first Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix in the picturesque Circus Maximus, Italy.

An almost speechless Malin Baryard-Johnsson smiled: "I am so proud, I am so happy to be sitting on probably the best horse in the world. What a day it has been. It means alot to have secured the ticket for Prague but just to be a winner here feels really really good. She was jumping her heart out for me again this week and today I really got the perfect jump-off."

Under intense pressure, Baryard-Johnsson produced fireworks in a scintillating LGCT Grand Prix jump-off to snatch the win from Shanghai Swans teammate Christian Ahlmann on the 9-year-old Mandato van de Neerheide. The final place on the podium went to LGCT Grand Prix of Hamburg winner Harrie Smolders and Monaco as they continued their flying form.

The Victory propelled the Swedish Olympic Gold medallist into the prestigious Longines Global Champions Tour Super Grand Prix at the GC Prague Playoffs in November as the first female of the year claimed her spot against the world’s best.

Edwina Tops-Alexander still leads the Championship race with just three legs to go. She sits just 6 points ahead of Olivier Robert on 208 points. Ben Maher the 2018 & 2019 Longines Global Champions Tour overall season Champion has climbed the ranks to third with 201 points but Max Kühner and Peder Fredricson are hot on his heels with 194 points and 189 points.

It was a sumptuous feast of top show jumping with spectators fanning themselves in the heat as they watched an afternoon of an 11 strong jump-off featuring top sporting joy and heartbreak. It was another genius, deceptive course by international designer Uliano Vezzani that required perfect and precise performances from the stellar horse and rider combinations with no room for error.

First to return to the ring was Olivier Robert and Vangog du Mas Garnier set the pace but wiped out the first part of the Longines double putting them straight out of contention for the win today.

Henrik von Eckermann and King Edward delivered the first double clear of the day to cross the finish line in 38.63 seconds and put the pressure on the rest of the field.

Giving it their all Abdel Siad and Bandit Savoie, inspired by a rousing reception from the crowd delivered the goods and slid in front of Henrik in a time of 38.09 seconds.

Irishman Micheal Pender and HHS Calais put the pedal to the metal from before the first fence as he looked determined for the win today. The tightest of rollbacks to the Premiumares upright knocking it down and having to settle for 4 faults but in a blistering time of 36.31s.

Malin Baryard-Johnsson could see Siad has left an opening and she took advantage of the extraordinary speed and precision of H&M Indiana. The combination were up on the time early on and took a flyer to the last to secure a fast clear in 36.74 seconds proving unbeatable in the end.

Jur Vrieling and the 9 year old Long John Silver opted for a steady clear round, almost collecting a time fault as they came home in 47.40 seconds.

The 2016 LGCT Grand Prix of Rome winner Evelina Tovek and Winnetou de la Hamente Z polished off another great clear stopping the clock in 40.41 seconds after Shane Breen had pushed too hard on Z7 Ipswich giving it everything they had but suffering eight faults today. British rider Sameh El Dahan and WKD Aimez Moi also collected 4 faults to secure a place just inside the top 10.

It was not over as Christian Ahlmann and Mandato van de Neerheide came into the ring blistering with determination, Exhibiting the skill and experience, Alhmann ensured a superb turn to the Premiumares upright keeping the momentum over the Longines double. But they were not fast enough at the finish, crossing the line clear in 37.82 seconds.

Harrie Smolders and Monaco came close going clear in 37.89 but couldn’t quite match the pace of Malin handing her the win and the golden ticket to the LGCT Super Grand Prix.

Evelina Tovek på Winnetou de la Hamente Z red felfritt och slutade på en åttondeplats i klassen. Peder Fredricson och Henrik von Eckermann hade två nedslag vardera.

An edge-of-the-seat GCL cliffhanger saw series leaders Valkenswaard United clinging on to pole position in the overall championship with Shanghai Swans propelled into second place after a spectacular victory in Rome.

The electrifying competition came down to the wire as the front runners Monaco Aces suffered a major setback when last to go Jos Verlooy had three down knocking the team down to seventh place. Making her debut on the team Malin Baryard-Johnsson and H&M Indiana picked up the top spot on the podium alongside team anchor Christian Ahlmann and Solid Gold Z as the only team to finish on 8 faults.

Paris Panthers duo of Harrie Smolders and Eve Jobs continued their exceptional form clinching second place with Venue d'Fees des Hazalles and Monaco while Madrid In Motion father and son pairing of Eric and Maikel van der Vleuten claimed the final spot today onboard Wunschkind and Olympic Bronze Medalist Beauville Z.

There are now just 5 points between Valkenswaard United on 247 points at the top of the overall season ranking and Shanghai Swans in second place with 242 points. Paris Panthers have closed in and are just two points behind the Swans in third while London Knights hold on to fourth place further behind with 208 points.

A beaming Malin Baryard-Johnsson said: "I had the last fence down but I knew I had Christian behind me who is a super-strong rider with a very good horse. It was hard today, it was warm and big jumps - we had to fight for it. I am so happy. It is my first competition with the Shanghai Swans and I am thrilled to be in pole position."

Christian Ahlman then explained: "We are in a good position overnight and our horses jumped in great shape already yesterday. Today we had the luck that maybe we haven’t had for the last couple of shows. I am really happy that Malin joins our team for the second half, it for sure makes our team a lot stronger. It was an important day for us, we are hoping that step by step we get closer to Valkenswaard United and today was a huge step."

Malin startade redan som tredje ekipage i kvällens tidshoppning över 1.55-hinder och tog ledningen. Constant van Paesschen från Belgien kom strax efter och var felfri men tiden var nästan två sekunder långsammare. När Julien Epaillard, korsade mållinjen, nästan två sekunder snabbare än Malin, hade inte ens halva startfältet ridit men det var ingen som klarade att rida felfritt på en snabbare tid.

Henrik von Eckermann på Glamour Girl, Evelina Tovek på Winnetou de la Hamente Z och Peder Fredricson på H&M Christian K hade alla varsitt nedslag. Henriks tid räckte till en åttondeplats.

Klassen var den första av två i Global Champions League och Malin ligger tillsammans med tyske Christian Ahlmann tvåa i lagtävlingen.

Malin Baryard-Johnsson, Peder Fredricson, Henrik von Eckermann samt Evelina Tovek, som var reserv vid EM i Riesenbeck nyligen, finns med i startlistorna. Med är också OS-hästarna H&M Indiana, H&M All in och King Edward. Vilka hästar som går vilka klasser återstår att se. Det blir tävling i Rom två helger i rad och eventuellt kan det bli aktuellt med högre klasser nästa helg.

Malin har också med sig El Barone 111 Z, Peder har H&M Christian K och Henrik tar med även Glamour Girl. Evelina Tovek rider Moeboetooe v/d Roshoeve och Winnetou de la Hamente Z.

Global Champions Tour har egen webb-TV som är en betalkanal.

På grund av osäkerheten kring pandemirestriktioner är de två sista omgångarna, som skulle ridits i New York och Shanghai, flyttade till Samorin i Slovakien den 15-17 respektive 21-23 oktober.

Finalen i Global Champions Tour och Global Champions League avgörs i Prag den 18-21 november.

With just four events remaining in the 2021 Longines Global Champions Tour season, the gladiatorial greats of show jumping will lock horns at the breathtaking Longines Global Champions Tour of Rome this weekend.

As the championship pressure intensifies and the anticipation mounting, eight out of the top ten ranked riders will battle it out for top honours in the brand new location of ancient Rome’s awe-inspiring Circus Maximus bringing horses back to the World Heritage site for the first time in over 2,000 years.

Leading the pack and in prime position to claim her third LGCT title is Edwina Tops-Alexander, the top Australian rider on 214 points looking to extend her 13 point lead on Olivier Robert. Another danger to add to the fray will be Peder Fredricson the Swedish rider within touching distance of the lead with his tally of 189 points. Close behind him is Sergio Alvarez Moya on 188 points and Olympic Gold Medalist Ben Maher with 186 points, the experienced rider who knows what it takes to be on the podium in Rome.

There will be a legion of top riders heading to the magnificent ancient stadium, once used by Emperors for horse and chariot races this week, including home heroes Alberto Zorzi and Emanuele Gaudiano. The event - which is free to the public - will see top international contenders including Malin Barnyard-Johnsson, Christian Ahlmann, Maikel van der Vleuten, Marlon Zanotelli, Jos Verlooy, Harrie Smolders, Penelope Leprevost, Eve Jobs, Olivier Philippaerts, Dani G. Waldman and Shane Breen.

The Longines Global Champions Tour of Rome will be staged at the impressive Circus Maximus which sits beneath the famous Palatine Hill and is overlooked by the extraordinary ruins of the Imperial Palace. It is one of the most exceptional arenas for show jumping in the world today and is only one kilometre from the Colosseum where the gladiatorial games took place.
